Two dead in Argentine barrier crush

Two fans have been killed and dozens more are injured in a crush at a Indio Solari concert at the La Colmens in the Buenos Aires, Argentina,  attended by 300,000 people even though local sources say the venue's capacity was just 200,000. The death toll may be higher. Witnesses said people were pushing to get into the concert after it had started and several people were collapsing because they appeared to be drunk. Those killed or injured were caught up in what is being described as 'an avalanche' of people pushing forward towards the stage barrier.

Five dead after mexican nightclyb shootings

A gunman has killed five people at a club hosting an electronic music festival in the Mexican resort of Playa del Carmen, in Quintana Roo state. Among those killed are two Canadians, an Italian and a Colombian citizen, Quintana Roo Attorney-General Miguel Angel Pech said. The fifth victim was a woman who died in the stampede which followed the shooting, he said. The shooting happened at the Blue Parrot club hosting the BPM festival.

Hard Music California leaves three dead in 2016

The Hard Music Summer Festival in California has left three people dead. The festival, in its ninth year, takes place at the Auto Club Speedway in San Bernardino County, about 50 miles east of Los Angeles. The music festival experienced two tragic deaths last year in 2015  Some 325 arrests were made at this year’s festival and Sheriff’s officials told KTLA that drugs including marijuana and methamphetamine were confiscated by the police. Reports say that the festival organisers have made attempts to create a safer environment for concert-goers, This year attendees were able to seek medical attention while at the festival if they had taken drugs without legal consequences. Water was readily available and shade was provided if people needed a break from the hot California sun. Temperatures reached the high ninties reports say. Organisers issued a statement saying "“We were deeply saddened to learn about the deaths of three people who attended the festival this weekend. While the causes of the deaths have not yet been determined, we ask everyone to keep them in their prayers. Our sincerest thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends.”

The three dead adults have been identified by the Coroner’s Division of the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department as Derek Lee from San Francisco who was just 22-years-old, Roxanne Ngo, also 22 years old, from Chino Hills, and Alyssa Dominguez from San Diego who died at the Kaiser Foundation Hospital of Fontana at the age of 21.

NEGLIGENCE: The parents of a girl who died at last year’s HARD Summer festival have filed a law suit against Live Nation and the Los Angeles County Fair Association. 19-year-old Katie Dix, was one of two young people who died of drug consumption at the 2015 event. Her parents accused LN, the association, Los Angeles County and the city of Pomona, of negligence. According to The Los Angeles Times, the suit says organizers knew that illegal drugs would be consumed and created dangerous conditions while failing to protect those in attendance. 

Pollstar reports that the family of 15-year-old Sasha Rodriguez, who died at Electric Daisy Carnival in 2010, received a $190,000 settlement from organizer Insomniac Inc., the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and an insurer in 2012. The event has since left the Coliseum, and now takes place in Las Vegas.No liability was admitted.

New Year's Eve tragedy leaves at least 35 dead in China

Thirty-five people have been killed in a stampede during New Year's celebrations in Shanghai, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that the Shanghai government confirmed that another 42 people were injured amid the chaos about half an hour before midnight. The deaths and injuries occurred in the  popular riverfront Bund area. Last week, the Shanghai Daily reported that the annual New Year's Eve countdown on the Bund, which normally attracts upwards of 300,000 people had been cancelled, apparently because of crowd control issues. The report said a "toned-down" version of the event would be held instead but that it would not be open to the public.

Thousands gathered in London along the Thames to see an 11-minute firework display centring on the London Eye, accompanied by a electronic soundtrack and followed by Auld Lang Syne. Ticketing was introduced for the first time, with numbers kept to 100,000, down on the estimated 500,00 last year.

In Edinburgh, thousands took part in the huge outdoor celebrations before the clock struck midnight, with Lily Allen headlining the Concert in the Gardens, joined by special guests Bjorn Again and Soul II Soul. The world-famous street party also saw performances from Twin Atlantic, Eddi Reader and Young Fathers and an outdoor ceilidh with 3,000 dancers. High winds forced some last minute cancellations.

Two dead in SXSW DUI crash

Amateur video has captured the aftermath of the crash at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, that left two people dead and over 20 others injured, 5 critically. The suspected drunk driver of the car was fleeing from police and crashed at high speed into numerous pedestrians. The driver's car hit a taxi, before the suspect was pursued fleeing on foot and being tasered by police.

Dutch company MassiveMusic have announced the sad news that one of the people killed was its Creative Director Steven Craenmehr. He died after driver Rashad Charjuan Owens crashed into a bike he was riding. The other fatality was reportedly a local woman, who was knocked off her moped.

Electric Zoo halted after drugs deaths

The third day of New York dance festival Electric Zoo was cancelled after two deaths during the first 48 hours of the fifth edition of the annual event. It is thought the two deaths and four other festival-goers becoming critically ill were all drugs related. The New York authorities seemingly moved to shut down the third day of the event, due to include sets by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Diplo and Chase & Status, after the two fatalities were confirmed.
