22,000 evacuated after Tomorrowland stage firein Spain

22,000 attendees were evacuated from Tomorrowland Barcelona after a fire broke out on stage. Reports say all attendees were quickly evacuated from the city’s Parc de Can Zam and that no serious injuries had been reported. Writing on their Facebook page, UNITE With Tomorrowland said: “Tonight, July 29th 2017, the UNITE Barcelona stage caught fire due to a technical malfunction. “Thanks to the professional intervention of the authorities all 22.000 visitors were evacuated safely and without reports of injuries. Authorities will follow up and continue the investigation with the local Spanish organizer of UNITE.” The show involved live DJs and a live stream from the 'mother' Tomorrowland in Belgium onto video walls. 

Tomorrowland's UNITE festival in Taiwan was also cancelled ebcause of typhoon warnings, with the local authority cancelling all outdoor shows. UNITE shows in Dubai, Israel, Germany and South Korea went ahead.

SFX expand EDM reach

With it's shares at an all time low, SFX Entertainment has increased its reach into EDM by agreeing to acquire Netherlands based Monumental Productions which prodces events and a fetsival under the 'Awakening' banner and SFX will also acquire Brazil's Plus Talent - whose business includes production, promotion and a talent agency - Plus promotes Brasil's 60,000 capacity Tomorrowland.

MTV partner up with Tomorrowland for broadcasts

MTV has announced that it will be the exclusive broadcast partner for Belgium’s dance music festival, Tomorrowland. The entertainment channel will air original content incorporating live event and documentary footage as part of its MTV World Stage franchise. The partnership facilitates the televising of the Tomorrowland festival for the first time. Tomorrowland now runs across two weekends; 18-20 July and 25-27 July 2014 and  two hours of the festival will be broadcast across MTV’s 60+ international channels in nearly 170 territories. The two 60-minute specials are scheduled to premiere in August 2014 and MTV has also announced that it will be developing a documentary celebrating Tomorrowland’s 10-year history, due to be aired in late 2014

SFX snaps up ID&T and Tomorrowland

Robert Sillerman's rapidly expanding EDM business SFX has taken a 75% stake in European dance promoter ID&T, confirmed by the launch of a US edition of  ID&T'S massively successful Tomorrowland festival. The Belgium version of the  dance music festival is already sold out for 2013.  The US version will be called TomorrowWorld and will take place in Atlanta in September. According to the New York Times, the acquisition is worth $97.5 million. Tomorrowland won best major festival at the 2012 Festival Awards Europe.

And advertising and communications group WPP has taken an investment in SFX itself, saying it sees it as a valuable platform for the brands it represents with WPP saying the investment “underlines what we have believed from the start. There is a huge, global, fragmented audience of 16 to 34 year old dance music consumers that is very difficult to reach. In developing our global platform. We will be able to offer brands the opportunity to connect directly through events, festivals, online and mobile media”
