The world "moved a step closer to salvation this month" with the news that a string of UK venues have banned selfie sticks - and the question posed by Virtual Festivals was "should UK music festivals now follow suit?" Selfie sticks, originally from Japan and also known as narcissticks were named by Time magazine as one of the 25 best inventions of 2014. Many disagree and London's O2 Arena, SSE Wembley Arena and O2 Academys have banned the devices due to a number of concerns, including the health and safety of the general public. And now organisers of Manchester’s Parklife Festival have taken the unusal and possibly amusingly provocative move of banning selfie sticks, along with a ban on man bags, dogs, fireworks, food and bikes. V Festival however said said: "Stadiums and Arenas are a very different environment to an open air festival field. If the selfie sticks are being used as they are intended then there is no reason why we would ban them at V Festival.” Ermms because they are often used by idiotic brain dead morons with little better to do that wave mobile phones around in the air when they could be watching great music?
