Bieber cancels final fourteen dates on World Tour

Justin Bieber has cancelled the final 14 dates of his 16 month long 'Purpose' tour which saw the star perform more than 150 shows in 40 countries across six continents. The fnal dates, which were spread across four months and included shows in East Rutherford, N.J., Hong Kong and Singapore, citing only “unforeseen circumstances.” A spkespersn said “Justin loves his fans and hates to disappoint them ..... however, after careful consideration he has decided he will not be performing any further dates. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.” Last week, Mr. Bieber had been barred from performing in mainland China because of past “bad behavior.

Bieber then hit the news after he bumped into a photographer as he left a church service. The singer was leaving the Saban Theatre in Los Angeles in his pick-up truck when he hit a 57-year-old photographer. Bieber got out of his truck to help the injured man, and paparazzi scrambled around the vehicle to get pictures of the accident. Maurice Lamond later said ""Hour before my birthday hits, I get ran over by Justin Bieber. Isn't that something? He's a good kid, though. I think the truck was a little bit too big for him, though, because there's no way he could see over the front — it was the slope it was on. But like I said, he got out, he was compassionate, he's a good kid, accidents happen." Police say no one was cited or arrested at the scene and there appeared to be no criminal activity involved.

Final day of Y-Not washed out

The final day of the UK's Y-Not festival in Derbyshire has been cancelled after heavy rainfall turned the site into a mud bath. Some sets on previous days were also cancelled. Promoters said "Unfortunately we've had to take the difficult decision to cancel Sunday due to the adverse weather conditions across the weekend, after consulting all the relevant authorities. The safety of our guests, performers and crew is our primary concern and the potential risk was too severe for Sunday to go ahead". The statement added: "We are very sorry for the disappointment and disruption caused to everyone who was looking forward to the final day of the festival. We understand that people will have questions about refunds. We will be giving all our guests further information about this over the coming days". The festival having was acquired by Global's Broadwick Live venture last year and this year featured headliners Two Door Cinema Club, Happy Mondays, Jake Bugg, Stereophonics, Feeder and Clean Bandit amongst others.

There were complaints that the organisers were not prepared for expected heavy rain and fans took to social media to demand refunds and complain about the organisation of the event. Y-Not Festival said it would be meeting insurers to discuss refunds.

Adele cancels final two Wembley shows after voice fails

Adele has cancelled the last two sell-out shows of her world tour due to take place at London's Wembley Stadium this weekend past after damaging her vocal cords. The 29-year-old singer said doctors dvised her not to perform. She had already performed two nights to crowds at Wembley, but said that she had been struggling vocally. "To say I'm heartbroken would be an understatement," Adele, said on her Twitter page. In her post, the 29-year-old said her first two Wembley shows this week had been "the biggest and best shows of my life", but that she had struggled vocally.

Who cancel as Daltrey falls ill with meningitis

The Who have postponed all the dates on the US leg of their 50th anniversary tour, after Roger Daltrey was diagnosed with viral Meningitis. The veteran British rock band had already postponed four dates due to singer Daltrey's "mystery virus". A statement on their website said, "After extensive tests the seriousness of his condition became apparent," adding doctors had "prescribed rest". The band apologised to fans and said Daltrey was "on the mend".

Cancellation news: Iommi in the pink, Kayne in shallow water

Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi has denied that his health problems are to blame for the cancellation of the band's farewell gig at Ozzfest Japan in November. In 2012 Iommi was diagnosed with cancer, but last year told fans he was was nearing the end of his treatment. In a post on Facebook last week, the guitarist said: "Thank you for all the enquiries about my health, very kind. I'm not sure how the rumour of my being unwell started as I was away on holiday! Once you've had something like lymphoma the fear that it will return never leaves, all I can say is that right now I'm fine and have regular blood tests". Black Sabbath's planned show at Ozzfest Japan will be replaced with an Ozzy Osbourne solo set.

And a free Kanye West show at Swan Lake in Yerevan, Armenia was cut short by police after just six songs when the rapper jumped into the shallow waters of the lake (to be 'closer to the crowd') followed by many of the audience who mobbed him. The show lasted just 20 minutes.

Kylie deposits in dispute after cancelled German tour

Negotiations over the status of advance payments made in respect of Kylie Minogue’s cancelled German tour are taking place between the interim receiver for the bankrupt promoter CT Creative Talent , the artiste’s UK-based agent CAA and her management company Roc Nation in the US. Carlos Fleischmann’s CT Creative Talent was placed into receivership in September, following a cancelled Backstreet Boys tour and other setbacks, and slow ticket sales for Minogue's Kiss Me Once tour.

Yusuf Islam cancels New York show in touting row

Cat Stevens, aka Yusuf Islam, has cancelled a show in New York, basically in protest at local laws governing ticketing which, he says, helps the touts, resulting in tickets for his show trading at vastly marked up prices online. Islam told fans: "I have been a longtime supporter of paperless tickets to my shows worldwide and avoiding scalpers [touts]. Unfortunately NY has a state law that requires all tickets sold for shows in NYC to be paper, enabling them to be bought and sold at inflated prices".

Another UK festival cancels

The AnotherWorld Festival which was set to take place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th August 2014 at Silverstone Woodlands in Northamptonshire and due to be headlined by Snoop Dog  has been cancelled joining the Alt-fest and I Am Music festivals.  Organisers put out a statement on their facebook page saying:

"It is with great sadness and regret we announce the cancellation of the AnotherWorld Festival 2014. Due to unforeseen circumstances the event will no longer be taking place this weekend at Silverstone Woodlands. We are working hard to replace this event with others very soon within the coming weeks and hope you will check back here on Wednesday at 4pm to hear our exciting new plans.

Morrissey cancels remainder of US tour following new health scare

Morrissey has been forced to cancel the remaining nine dates of his US tour, after contracting a respiratory infection. The singers Facebook page expressed "great sadness", while semi-official fansite True To You said it was "unimaginable sorrow". This is the third time in the last eighteen months that Morrissey's health has caused him to cancel live shows. In March last year, he cancelled another US tour due to a variety of medical problems, including pneumonia in both lungs. The singer later revealed that doctors had advised him to retire from performing live altogether. In July, part of a South American tour was cancelled after Morrissey and his security guard contracting food poisoning in Peru, with the remaining dates later pulled due to financial reasons.

Ringmaster Festival cancelled

The team at Worcestershire's Ringmaster Festival have belatedly cancelled their inaugural event, blaming "financial implications". In a statement issued just ten days before the 27-28 September scheduled show, which would have featured Maximo Park, Swim Deep, Hadouken! and the Mystery Jets, organisers say "as the festival entered the final stages it found itself in a financial position and as a result was no longer able to guarantee the appropriate monies owed to the bands and other parties at this stage. It is after careful consideration that Ringmaster has decided to unfortunately cancel this year's event" adding "Ringmaster would like to thank everyone that has supported, been involved with and help spread the name over the past few months and would like to offer everyone their sincere apologies, in what has become a horrendous and saddening situation". http://www.ringmasterfestival.co.uk/

Motorhead cancel after Lemmy health scare

Motörhead's Lemmy Kilminster has been "immediately advised to rest", having had a defibrillator fitted to fix an irregular heartbeat meaning all of Motörhead's remaining live dates are cancelled. The band cancelled several shows in June apparently as Kilminster was having treatment for a severe haematoma. Lemmy posted a note saying  "I'd like to thank everyone who wish me well, it was a tough decision for me [cancelling the shows] as I don't like to disappoint the fans, especially in times where economy is bad and people spent their money to see us. But sometimes you can't do anything else than following doctor's orders, but be sure we will be back and kick everybody's ass".

And Morrissey has said that doctors feared he might die earlier this year as the singer battled double pneumonia, a bleeding ulcer and throat condition Barrett's oesophagus. He was forced to cancel a string of live appearances because of ill-health, that seemingly began when he collapsed in a hotel room in January.

Mumfords cancel again

Mumford and Sons have had to cancel more appearances on their current US tour to give bassist Ted Dwane time to recover from brain surgery: the band were forced to cancel the remainder of their dates last week, including a headline appearance at the Bonnaroo festival on Saturday. They headline the Pyramid Stage on the final night of Glastonbury on the 30th June.

Beyonce cancels Belgian date

Amid speculation that Beyonce may be expecting again, the singer has cancelled a show in Belgium (14 May) because of "dehydration and exhaustion". In an email to the Associated Press, the R&B star's press rep said she'd been advised to take a break from playing live, and is "awaiting word from doctors" as regards another planned performance at Antwerp's Sportpaleis Arena on 15th May.

Morrissey, Bieber and Rihanna all cancel

Morrissey has been forced to cancel more shows after being hospitalised again, this time with "double pneumonia" - pneumonia in both lungs. This follows another hospital visit for the singer earlier this year for a bleeding ulcer, concussion and a throat condition. The ilness has forced the cancellation of the first day of the the Vive Latino festival in Mexico which the ailing singer was meant to be headlining
 
And after an unexplained two hour  late running show at the O2, terrible press, collapse at a show and self diagnosed hospitalisation and then a fight with paparazzo in the UK, Justin Bieber has now cancelled a show in Portugal:  Although the 19-year-old performed on Monday night at Lisbon's Pavilhão Atlântico, Tuesday's gig has been called off owing to "unforeseen circumstances". 

And a laryngitis and flu-struck Rihanna has cancelled two dates on her US-based 'Diamonds' tour. Promoter Live Nation released a statement saying that the R&B star is "still recovering" from previously revealed ill health. The shows will be re-scheduled.

Gaga takes on insurers over cancelled Jakarta show

Lady Gaga  is taking legal action against insurers at Lloyds Of London who are refusing to pay out over a cancelled concert that was due to take place in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta last summer – the event was cancelled because of statements made by the Islamic Defenders' Front, a  Muslim extremist group – and fears of violence. Indonesian police had also reportedly expressed concerns about the safety of both Gaga and her fans if protests got out of control. After the gig was cancelled, Gaga's promoters tried to recoup the losses caused by the axed show from their insurers, using clauses in their policy that allowed for compensation if cancellation was caused by "terrorism and/or sabotage or threat thereof". But the insurers have said that the Islamic Defenders' Front's statements were not sufficient to exercise that clause. The singer's management and promoters have now filed for litigation in the Californian courts.

Morrissey's list of ailments prompts US cancellations

Following his recent hospitalisation  with various health complaints including concussion, a bleeding ulcer and Barrett’s oesophagus, all of which resulted in US show cancellations, Morrissey has been advised "on doctors orders" to postpone additional dates on his US tour. He had hoped to resume touring at the Chelsea Ballroom in Las Vegas on the 9th Feb,  but that date has now been pulled along with Phoenix (10 Feb) and Sparks, Nevada (2 Mar) although Morrissey promises he'll still be able to play in El Paso on 12 Feb.

Flowers' throat a Killer

The Killers were forced to stop a show at Manchester's MEN Arena yesterday (13th November) after just five songs after frontman Brandon Flowers lost his voice.

A second date in Manchester has also been cancelled, and it's not yet certain what will happen to the band's planned London shows later in the week. 

Are UK festivals in decline this year? eFestivals statistics tend to disagree

Our friends at eFestivals have been looking at whether or not the UK festival market is in decline, with some surprising results. After the wettest summer on records, the recession and with the unanticipated fall-out from the Olympics for the festival market, as well as some high profile cancellations including Sonisphere UK, WowFest, The Last Jubilee, The Big Chill and the Bloc Weekender, eFestivals decided to have a look at the figures, and see whether 2012 was as bad as many pundits are declaring. EFestivals say that whilst it is true that more festivals have been cancelled in 2012 than ever before, with 19 more festivals cancelled this year than the average (38 festivals a year) over the last five years, as a percentage of the overall number of festivals that were planned in the UK (excluding Northern Ireland) the figures look slightly different over the last six years - with no significant increase in cancellations as a percentage of shows that actually took place.

Wowfest joins the cancelled list

Wowfest, the new festival which was planned for  17-19 August on the Isle of Wight and featuring UB40, Alabama 3, Echo & The Bunnymen and Paul Okenfold amongst others, has been cancelled, adding to a growing list of UK events that have been pulled this year. The event had caused some concern after local traders, residents and press complained that two directors of the organising company, Wow Festivals Ltd, Philip Snellen and Geri Ward, had previously been involved in the Isle of Wight Jazz Festivals in 2007 and 2008 and the Island’s Folk and Blues & Festival which reportedly left a trail of debts owed to suppliers and musicians.  Previous line up announcements for the Festival had  included Annie Lennox, Robert Plant, Paulo Nutini and Elbow.

Wow Festivals Limited issued a statement saying

“Following consultations and full consideration, it is with heavy hearts and much regret that we have been forced to announce the postponement of WOWfest 2012.

Putting the festival together, in what is proving to be a very challenging year and with damage inflicted by anti-festival lobbyists, was more difficult than we anticipated. We have spent the last year fighting hard to establish and keep WOWfest in the calendar. 

Unfortunately circumstances have dictated that this is no longer possible to achieve in 2012.

Although great confidence had initially been shown by the Isle of Wight Council to grant a Premises License for 18,000 rising to 22,000 capacity over a three year period and to further grant permission to run an event of that size under the Isle of Wight Act there are many forces trying to prevent the event happening. There is no doubt of the WOWfest team operational capabilities to deliver such an event.

However, the Isle of Wight Act conditions imposed by the council on the 18^th May required a lump sum payment of over £140,000 for Council and Emergency Services to be brought forward to the 31^st May. The conditions also stipulated the need for a financial bond of an unspecified and potentially unlimited amount to be made to the Isle of Wight Council.”

The Local Authority imposed some 100 new conditions on May 18th as well as the £142,215 payment for police, fire and council costs saying that the issue of making organisers pay costs in advance was because Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary had said in a written submission presented to the meeting that "The rationale for this request is due to the amount of information we have received in relation to the financial standing of the promoters and their previous history with payments of monies owed.”

Organisers say that a plan to downsize to a smaller 5,000 capacity event also met with resistance from the Police. The Police said the move, to exclude the event from the Isle of Wight Act, still meant that they had “grounds for believing the promoters of Wowfest do not have the financial capacity to ensure that this public event can be provided safely and without causing undue disruption to the community.

Blink and Bjork cacellations

Blink 182 have had to cancel part of their US/Canadian tour after Blink drummer Travis Barker has had to have his tonsils taken out - It's not yet known whether Blink's UK shows, the first of which falls on 7 Jun at the Birmingham NIA. And Björk has issued an apology to all those disappointed by her withdrawing from Hungary's Balaton Sound, Russia's Afisha Picnic, and both editions of Spain's Primavera festivals. The Icelandic singer, who has previously cancelled two South American shows, has an "inflamed nodule" in her throat, has been ordered by doctors to rest her voice for six weeks.
